Risks Associated With Physical Stretching
Any physical stretching or manipulation of the foreskin or surrounding skin may involve risks, including but not limited to:
- Pain or discomfort
- Skin irritation, redness or soreness
- Tearing or micro-tears of the skin
- Bleeding
- Swelling or inflammation
- Infection
- Scarring or thickening of tissue
- Other injury
Users are responsible for exercising appropriate caution, using gentle technique and stopping any activity that causes concerning symptoms.
When to Stop
Stop any stretching or manipulation immediately and seek appropriate professional medical advice if you experience:
- Sharp or severe pain
- Bleeding that does not stop quickly
- Significant swelling or inflammation
- Signs of infection (redness, warmth, discharge, fever)
- Difficulty urinating
- Numbness or loss of sensation
- The foreskin becoming trapped behind the glans and not returning to its normal position (paraphimosis)
Urgent: Paraphimosis
If the foreskin becomes trapped behind the glans and cannot be returned to its forward position, this is a medical emergency. Seek immediate medical attention or go to the nearest emergency department.
When to Seek Urgent Medical Attention
Contact the appropriate emergency service in your location or go to the nearest emergency department if you experience:
- Severe pain
- Significant bleeding
- Severe swelling
- Signs of infection (spreading redness, pus, fever, chills)
- Difficulty urinating or inability to urinate
- The foreskin becoming trapped behind the glans (paraphimosis)
- Any other significant injury or concerning symptom
